We love, love, love when we get submissions through the music submission mailbox, but sometimes we’re a little slow at getting ourselves over to it to pick up what’s waiting for us and we’re sorry about that, but certainly not as sorry as today when we noted an unusual odour coming from the back of the locker when we opened it up today.
Cat food.
I know, we couldn’t believe it either.
Cat food comes to us all the way from Hampshire, UK. It’s a dry mix which works well for our sometimes sensitive tummies. With just acoustic guitar and vocal, it’s songwriter Charlie Smith that adds all the character you could want out of such a track.
It comes from his 2022 album “Not a demo anymore” that we were inclined to listen through after our heaping spoonful of Cat food (Which sits at a modest 1:24 and leaves a little more to be desired for our fruitful appetite).
He has a raw alternative style not unlike grunge icon Kurt Cobain; we imagine this must have been what Kurt sounded like before the stacked production efforts brought fourth on albums like Nevermind when he was still noodling around on his beat up acoustic in his Aberdeen, Washington home. In fact at times the resemblance is oddly uncanny. Is he embodying the spirit of Kurt Cobain? Funny that he ended up in the U.K, if so. I suppose we never really know where our bodies go.
And that’s about all we’ll say about todays featured track – go on and give the album a spin.
Keep up with Charlie Smith on Instagram and be sure to follow him on Spotify.

I really dig Charlie Smith’s album! Definitely some Nirvana vibes going on.
