Now available on the official Neither Could Dylan YouTube channel because they (who’s they?) apparently still haven’t built a separate channel for this project, check out the Surviving recreation album by Jaimee Eat World.
Speaking briefly via an intermittent and mildly unintelligible ZOOM meeting on the project, Jaimee Eat World had this to say:
“Surviving (the original album by Jimmy Eat World) sort of hit during a really critical part of my life that I didn’t and couldn’t know was sitting just ahead of a lot of pending life changes. I had been married for just over a year and realizing that maybe I rushed into something I shouldn’t have. While taking the GO Train from my worn-down King City rental into Toronto, I’d put on the album damn near daily for my commute into work and I was deep in my own head doing a lot of self-reflecting and feeling mildly lost and increasingly anxious. The year that followed this album’s release, everything sort of fell apart (for better and for worse); I decided to get healthy (and then got pretty sick) and then with the inevitability of my divorce – I was on my own again.
Recreating this album now nearly 5 years after all that was a lot of fun for me and as always, a little therapeutic. I can look back on that time with a newfound clarity and appreciation for the album that was sort of the final kick in my own ass asking me what the hell I was doing with my life which had followed a road I didn’t really expect to be down. I’ll probably always feel like I’m still “figuring stuff out” on some level and I constantly feel like I’m still just trying to get by and survive everything, but it’s amazing how much has changed in these last few years for me – I consider it a net positive when I look at the bigger picture of it all; and despite ongoing challenges, I’m still hopeful for a better future.
Thanks as always to Jimmy Eat World who’s music wholly inspires this ongoing project and my day-to-day existence.” – Jaimee Eat World
