Italian-based guitarist Marco Angelo amazes audiences with his proficient and virtuosic performances whether he be presenting original music or unique takes on popular favourites and his latest is no exception.
Taking the classic theme from Sonic the Hedgehog, Angelo has reimagined the song in an eccentric and high intensity metal production where his playing really takes center stage.
Admittedly it’s been a little while since we’ve played the original Sonic games, but we definitely don’t remember the score being this epic.
With Alixx’s heavy machine gun drumming and Carl Anthony Lorenz melodically sensible synthesizers laying the rock solid foundation, Angelo takes Green Hill Zone to new heights and then some.
Angelo’s undeniable talent rips through each bar in a way that’s as technical as it is soulful and sure to inspire any guitarist to pick up and get back to practice. Tonally, Angelo’s choice in textures and effects flawlessly capture the wondrous world of Sonic in a way that gives them just a bit of an edge and a certain fierceness. When thinking of it contextually in regards to the game itself, it makes whipping through each level for maximum coins less of a fun challenge and more of a tremendous and courageous battle.
In the original, we are goofy hedgehogs out on a silly adventure; in Angelo’s, we are warriors and we will not be defeated.
Listen to Marco Angelo’s Green Hill Zone wherever you stream and afterwards, check out the original to see what we’re talking about.
