When you imagine yourself in love, what do you believe that should feel like?
If you ask British singer-songwriter TaniA Kyllikki, it might feel like you’ve found yourself in incredible fortune; congratulations, you’ve struck gold!
I’ve Struck Gold With You is an intrepid ballad that rests largely on steady pulsating arpeggio’s interlocking with single notes on piano, creating a delicate and pensive foundation for the overlapping score and its direct heartfelt message.
Written in dedication to her fans, we imagine the song to be at least in part inspired by her love for her husband and collaborator on the track, music producer Rynellton, if for no other reason than the soul-baring lyrics in which Kyllikki professes her own love and appreciation for another with a feverishly passionate and dynamic vocal performance.
Both the arrangement and the words themselves are easy to follow, laid out so plainly that surely anyone listening would be understanding and drawn into the fairy-tale story Kyllikki lays out for us. “It’s as though you were made for me and I were made for you,” albeit might be considered a little cliche from the cool kids crowd, it’s undeniably what many of us are searching for in our own partners and loved ones; To feel a sense of belonging, trust, comfortableness and safety.
The production begins to pick up just ahead of the midway point with crashing cymbals and a harmonious choir entering the mix to begin uplifting us to the 9th cloud Kyllikki is crooning to us from. She is joined for a short time by the rest of the drum kit and staccato strings, grounding us while the vocals become more and more fervent. Her delivery is as though this may be the last opportunity she has to ensure her love knows how monumental and exceptional they have made her feel and absolutely nothing will get in the way of her ensuring they know so.
The drums and strings peel away again and the track opens up to make way for a return to a subdued and unguarded intimate close to the song with just the piano padding away as Kyllikki repeats the songs refrain, “this is what love feels like,” and we’re inclined to believe her.
The song is the second single off TaniA Kyllikki’s forthcoming album Free-Sprited which will she her blend Pop, House and Soulful R&B. It’s due out in 2024.
