Sounding as though it’s coming from the other side of a closed door, our introduction to Real Easy is met by a straight industrial backbeat that carries with it an ominous synth pad before the filtration is washed away and we see him in full clarity.
Hailing from Ireland, the first thing that really stands out about Real Easy to our own ears is his unmistakable accent which in itself is gripping; the next is his hard flow which with its sharp cuts and harsh stops settles us into the Irish underground gangster rap scene – one we’re unfamiliar with and unsure if we should be in its audience.
The beat largely keeps a steady pace with little movement outside of the addition of some high-hats clicking through the verses so our focus turns wholly to the words Real Easy is spitting out at us. Though it doesn’t lift us as we enter the chorus refrain, we understand that “Infinity” is more of a personal hype song for Real Easy himself; a message to his detractors or competition that he’s here for the long haul and nothing or no one can stop him from it. About midway we’re met with a feature by Tomi Keni who brings a fresh flow into the mix that is arguably the most alluring part of the track; it carries a large presence and feels authentic in a way that we imagine would translate best to the stage. Though despite the mention of everyone’s favourite talking-plush Furby’s, Tomi Keni’s contribution is an even more aggressive take on the same messages propelled by Real Easy in the previous verses. It coats the track with an even darker aura that we have difficulty appreciating wholly without any prior knowledge of what inspired it.
While we always appreciate a good hype song, this one does little to empower us as the listener and given the production’s otherwise minimal production, there isn’t a ton that pulls us into the track or sends us back for a repeated listen. At most, we’re intrigued by Real Easy’s delivery and the unique qualities of his speech and we’re left wondering what he really wants to share with us through his music.
