Stuffed Owls

I know I’ve walked these stairs
Once soft carpet, now bare
Stripped away the marks we made
Something’s never change

Window sill still in decay
A two-step followed by an arm raise
Broken latch on the back gate
Blueprints of reimagined fate

And now the voices echo off the walls
Repeating stories you thought we forgot
Shoulder stretched from room to room
Fingernails bled straight through
Holding out without reprieve
Another drawn out soliloquy
An empty nest with stale feed
Stuffed owls on the TV

Can’t escape it
Can’t get over it
Hanging off of your front lip
Burning half lit

And now the voices echo off the walls
Repeating stories you thought we forgot
Arms outstretched from room to room
Fingernails bled straight through
Holding out despite the cost
A battle worn and lives long lost
An empty nest with stale feed
Stuffed owls on the TV

Some of these poems/bits of writing I’ve been sharing lately I’ve begun to demo out for release in 2022. Keep an eye on the blog for updates as to when the first one is due out! Thanks for reading.
