Terminal

From the Vault, circa 2006 or so. I remember being heavily into Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin when I wrote this one, so if you’re trying to heard that one, think the SoCo “North” record. And if you haven’t heard that one, check it out, it’s arguably one of the best of its genre – I’ll drop a link below the lyrics.

Not long after I wrote this song I did exactly what it says, conjured up a little lie, told my family I was headed out with some friends on a week long road trip to go look at different universities in Ontario. Instead I hopped on a plane to Calgary to visit family I hadn’t seen in about a decade or more. I wanted to go further west but it was my first time travelling like that and I invited a friend who’s boyfriend lived in Calgary and could offer us a place to stay. That trip was supposed to be some sort of stepping stone to get me to make the plunge to go out to California but, as of writing this blog, I still haven’t been.

These sleepless eyes can’t keep trying to stay open
When all they ever see is what they never really wanted
And I’m sweating trying to choose the right words
But I know nothing that comes out will help
And I’m starting to panic now
I’m starting to panic now

So I twist my tongue and conjure up a little lie
That I know you’ll accept completely blind
But you should know I’ve never been the honest kind
Come on and question, I’ve got plenty to hide

If your gonna make me choose, you know I’ll quit
Cause I can keep running, but it’ll make no difference
When I’m miles away
You’ll still be stuck in Toronto
Wondering where did you go wrong now

Even if you don’t,
Even if you don’t,
I’ll still go

This collars getting tighter with every step
I shake my head trying to pull apart from what I have
My backs turned but I can hear every word
The door’s wide open now I can make it through

If your gonna make me choose, you know I’ll quit
Cause I can keep running, but it’ll make no difference
When I’m miles away you’ll still be stuck in Toronto
wondering where did you go wrong now
So make it easier on the both of us
and just wave me off at the terminal

And you know, I’ll go
Even if you say no
You know I’ll go
Even if you say no
Even if you say no
Even if you say no
I’ll still go
