About the Track

I wrote this song back in February 2020 and it was one of the first ones I wrote that almost made it onto the initial tracklist for A Quiet Place To Scream, but once I started developing the sounds it was clear it wouldn’t quite fit on that record. Instead I sat on it for months thinking I might never actually get around to developing it; it didn’t fit the sound or vibe I was working towards then. Today, it’s one of my favourite tracks and almost perfectly encapsulates a lot of the things I was thinking about during the pandemic when I decided to make a real go of promoting myself as a musician.

I initially put out Wasted Time as a demo recording only on my Bandcamp page, but recently I enlisted the help of drummer Shane Slimmon to help give it an authentic band feel.

Shane took the original mixdown to a studio near Belleville, Ontario and recorded the drums himself there with a handful of microphones.

I didn’t change much in the initial mix from what you’re hearing now, just the new addition of Shane’s drums.

I thought it really helped liven up the track and he gave a great dynamic performance that I was lacking in the initial demo.

Hope you all enjoy it & share it with your friends!

Lyrics

Some people think they know me
Just because they’ve known me for a while
Do you really think it’s that easy?
Don’t you know that everybody lies?

Some people think they know me
Just because we shared a round or two
Let each other in too soon
Don’t you know that this is just what lonely people do?
I thought you knew

That all of this was for nothing
Not to say it was wasted time
I might come to miss this with rose tinted vision
Not enough to change my mind

Some people think they know me
Just because they knew me for a while
Do you really think that it’s that easy?
I barely knew myself at 25
How could I know that

I didn’t mean to deceive you
I don’t even know any tricks
I didn’t ask for this feeling
Didn’t know what it meant
I didn’t mean to deceive you
I don’t even know any tricks
I didn’t ask for this feeling
Didn’t know that it meant

That all of this was for nothing
Guess you could say it was wasted time
I might come to miss this
With rose tinted vision
Not enough to change my mind
