The cool air acts as a net,
wrapping the trees in its hollow embrace
The dewey fog resting quietly over the lake,
protecting the creatures below while they sleep
The distance becoming even more distant – hidden,
in plain sight
The water lays still, invitingly
but just a drop of it is enough to send a chill up your spine
A line sinks into the water
Lost to the thick algae beneath
The tiny hairs on your neck stand alert,
attentively
The silence once looming between your ears has calmed
following the quiet rhythm of your heart and lungs
For a moment the chaos clears,
The fog dispersing slowly, retreating behind the suns charming rays
The air, still cold, but crisp and refreshing
It’s morning now,
If only for a while
